FINANCIAL DISTRICT

SF Map: N, 6

"Wall Street West" begins at Montgomery Street and extends east toward the Embarcadero. Although San Francisco's Financial District is contained within a few city blocks, it is ranked as one of the top four financial centers in the nation. Most activity in the City's commercial district takes place from 9am to 5pm.

Montgomery Street and banking have been linked since the Gold Rush. For an overview of the area's Gold Rush history, complete with stagecoaches and gold nuggets, visit the Wells Fargo Museum (420 Montgomery/ California). In 1904, A.P. Giannini opened the Bank of Italy, later to become the giant Bank of America which remains headquartered in
San Francisco.

The Transamerica Pyramid (600 Montgomery/ Washington) is San Francisco's tallest building, rising 853 feet. Also impressive are the views from the 52nd floor of the Bank of America Building (555 California/ Montgomery).

NOTE: During business hours do not park in yellow metered spaces designated for loading. Avoid 4pm-6pm tow-away zones.
